Hello neighbors!
As you might have read, we have a couple of volunteer hours coming up this Saturday (Oct 12) morning from 9-11am.
We will meet at the corner of McCoy and Keller Springs (main entrance).
Our goal during these two hours will be mainly to cut back the (non-photinia) growth in the hedges. These are the major ones growing faster than the photinias and making it look messy. We will try to cut this growth down as close to the base of the roots as possible. In addition, our goal is to also remove as much of the dead photinia plants as possible in order to make space for young, smaller photinias to be planted later (when they become available later in the year).
Secondly, we will ask a couple of people to pick up trash and recyclables on both sides of the Keller Springs brick fence.
The following items will be provided for your use if needed:
– Paper lawn bags
– Trash bags
– Wheelbarrow
– Portable generator and extension cords for those who may bring electric tools
– 3 High-vis safety vests for your use
– 3 traffic cones to place at the curb alongside Keller Springs (please bring more if you have any to spare)
Tools to bring if you are able:
– rakes
– string trimmer
– leaf blower
– small hand saw or loppers to cut the small tree growth
– gloves
– water
Lastly, please be aware that there may be a few poison-ivy vines in the brush. Best to wear long sleeves and gloves to minimize exposure.
Any other questions, please text Doug Becker at 214-707-6805.
Hope to see you there.. and if you can’t, we’ll check with you again in a few weeks when we have our second scheduled volunteer project!
